Buro, 78, of Ludden, ND, passed away March 23, 2012, at the Oakes Community Hospital.
Eli Alfred was born June 24, 1933 to Fred and Lena (Wanttie) Buro on a farm near Hecla, South Dakota. He attended country schools in the area, and also attended Ludden Public School. Eli was confirmed at Savo Lutheran Church in Brown County. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Siegler on June 22, 1957 at the Congregational Church in Merricourt, North Dakota. They began their life together on a farm southeast of Ludden, where they continued to live until his death.
Eli devoted his life to his wife, family, and to his farm. His dream was to have a large herd of cattle and looked forward to each calving season. He achieved his life long dreams as a successful farmer and rancher. Eli enjoyed hunting, fishing, horsehoes, and playing kittenball. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Eli served on the Ludden Cemetery Board, was President of the Ludden School Board, and served on the Lovell Township Board for over 45 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; five children, Joanne (Wade) Anderson, Havana, ND, Jim (Arlyne) Buro, Ludden, ND, Judy (Todd) Erickson, Apple Valley, MN, Julie (Tharen) Ness, Edgeley, ND, and Janel (Steven) Smith, Havana, ND, thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Eli is also survived by a brother, Eugene Buro, Hecla, SD; and a sister, Darlene (Ken) Hafner, Ham Lake, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Shirley Buro, a sister-in-law, Emma Buro, and a grandson, Brason Kappenman.
Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. His funeral service will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Oakes. Burial will be at the Ludden Cemetery, Ludden, ND.
