Holzer, 84, of Jamestown, ND, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at his home.

Benedict Holzer was born October 1, 1927 at Chicago, IL, the son of John and Julianna (Formitak) Holzer.  He was raised and educated in Chicago.  He joined the US Army in 1946.  After his discharge, Ben moved to Dickinson, ND where he worked on his uncle’s farm. In 1949 he moved to Bismarck and was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.  He married Nyla Geraldine “Jerri” Gordon in Williston, ND on August 16, 1952 where they made their home until 1960 when they moved to Jamestown. Ben retired in April, 1983 after 33 years with NW Bell Telephone Co.  In 1984 he opened his own business, James Valley Telephone Repair Service, which he operated until 1994. 

Ben was a member of St. James Basilica, Knights of Columbus, Jamestown Salesman’s club, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He is survived by his wife, Jerri Holzer, Jamestown; son, David (Rhonda) Holzer, West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Carla Holzer, Jamestown; one granddaughter, Katie, Hillsboro, ND; three great grandchildren; and one brother, John (Erna) Holzer, Park Ridge, IL.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Joel Holzer.

Eucharist of Christian Burial:  10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2012 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.

In lieu of flowers: Memorials may be sent to Jamestown Hospice or a charity of choice.
