(NewsDakota.com) North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple is schedule to visit Oakes later this week to honor to the accomplishments of the Oakes High School Concert Band by giving the band a prestigious award.

Dalrymple, along with his wife Betsy, will present the “Governor’s Band Award” to the OHS Concert Band on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the south gym of Oakes High School.

Band Director Sue German says it’s quite the honor to receive this award, and the music selections to be played for the Governor, Mrs. Dalrymple, and the public will feature a celebratory note.

The Oakes Concert Band was designated in December as the 2011-2012 Governor’s Official Band. Fargo South’s Concert Choir has been named the Governor’s Official Chorus. for 2011-12.

The Governor’s Band and Chorus were selected from applications submitted by school and civic groups from across the state based on musical talent, achievement and community involvement. The band and chorus may be invited to perform at official state functions held throughout the year.
