(NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission learned Tuesday that the State of North Dakota has distributed about million for road repairs in the county.

County auditor Casey Bradley says the money is from a disaster relief bill passed during the Legislature’s special session in November.

Stutsman County received about $720,000 from the bill, and each of the 64 townships in the county received at least $10,000. Cities in the county also received money based on road miles.

Bradley says the money is required to be used for “extraordinary road maintenance purposes.” He says the county was only expecting about $200,000, but received $720,000. That money will be used to help fund the local cost share of $3.7 million needed to complete about $18 million worth of federal highway projects scheduled in the county.

Bradley said the money is very much needed by many of the county’s townships.

“Basically the townships that have been affected by flooding, the money’s going to go into their account and then come right back out for road repairs,” he said.
