Edwards was born July 28, 1910 to Carl and Rose (Herman) Peterson, in Jud, ND.  She attended a country school north of Nortonville, ND and graduated from Nortonville High School.  She went to Ellendale Normal and Industrial College and then taught in country schools west of Nortonville.  On December 31, 1932 she married Claude Edwards in Hartford, SD.  The couple farmed in the Nortonville area until Claude’s death in 1976. Eleanor continued to live on the family farm.  She was a member of Nortonville United Methodist Church, the Nortonville Homemakers, and the TOPS organization. 

After the age of 70, she took up oil painting and Brazilian embroidery.  In her later years, Eleanor traveled to many countries and two National Bowling Tournaments.  She was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan and enjoyed watching them on television.  Eleanor died May 17, 2012 at the St. Rose Care Center in LaMoure.  She was 101 years old.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Delene (Raymond) Berg, Riverton, WY, Lorraine (Morris) Ost, Adrian, ND, and Ardella (Robert) Lacina, Fullerton, ND; a son-in-law, James Buckeye; 13  grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Meryl Buckeye; 3 brothers; and 1 great grandson, Ryan Berg.


Funeral Service:
  2:00 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2012 at Nortonville United Methodist Church.

Family will receive guests: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 20 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Sunday May 20 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Nortonville Cemetery.
