N.D. (AP) – A group of residents in Dunn County is opposing a Bismarck company’s plan to build an oil field waste landfill near Dodge. Waste Solutions LLP is seeking permission to store solid oil field waste in an open, lined pit on about 120 acres of land two miles south of Dodge, a town of fewer than 100 people. Several area residents want the county’s planning and zoning board to reject the idea. They cite concerns over potential environmental problems and an increase in traffic. Waste Solutions officials say the facility would fill a need in the region, create about 10 jobs and boost the economy of the Dodge area. The state Health Department has given initial approval to the project. A July 10 hearing is planned in the county.
