Geinert was born April 28, 1926 to Minnie (Entzminger) and Mike Geinert on a farm in Swede Township, near Jud, ND.  He was the fifth of nine children.  His parents moved around a great deal, but they settled on a farm near Jud, where he grew up.  He helped his father and brothers farm, but his main job was at night.  He was to repair the old John Deere tractor, so they could go back in the field the next day.

Floyd helped his dad doing carpentry and took over running the threshing machine; going from one neighbor to another threshing their crops.

In 1949, he met Ruth Lange of Grassy Butte, ND.  On June 22, 1952, they were married at her folk’s place.  They lived on Floyd’s mother’s farm for four years.  During this time, two little girls, Laurie and Connie, were born to them.

The fall of 1956, they moved to a farm in Black Loam Township.  They farmed and ran Hereford cattle.  Another little girl, Becky, and a little boy, Andy, were born while they lived there.

Floyd was a first rate farmer, and loved the land that God gave and did his best to take good care of it.

He was a member of the North LaMoure Church, serving on the church board for many years.  He was also a member of the Shipping Association, Stockmen’s Association, and was one of the first members of N.F.O.

In 1980, because of his health, he was forced to give up farming and his cattle, but he kept busy restoring old tractors.

In 2001, Floyd and Ruth bought a house in Valley City, but in the summer they would move back to the farm where they would do yard work and some repair work.  The five grandchildren liked to come and help.  His health worsened in 2010, so he could no longer go out to the farm.

Floyd and Ruth celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 23, 2012.  He is survived by Ruth; daughters, Laurie (Jim) Gilbertsen, Elk River, MN, Connie Geinert and Becky (Daryl) Heise both Valley City; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Marvin Geinert, Backus, MN; and sisters, Loraine Liggett, Erie, PA and Rose Lindgren, Salem, OR.

He died at his home on July 17, 2012 and was preceded in death by his parents; son, Andy; 4 brothers; and a sister.

Floyd was a very kind man, helping his neighbors when needed and a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  His funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Valley City.

Visitation will be held at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
