(NewsDakota.com) – Hunting season is just two weeks away in North Dakota.

The early Canada goose season is set to open Aug. 15. This year, the North Dakota Game and Fish Department has increased the daily limit in an effort to get population numbers under control.

The Game and Fish says hunters can now take 15 Canada geese in one day, and have a possession limit of 30 geese during the early season.

The early season runs until Sept. 15 in most of the state. It is intended to reduce local Canada goose numbers, which remain high above population goals. The regular waterfowl hunting season opens Sept. 22 for North Dakota residents. Pheasant opener has been set for Oct. 13.
