CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Water restrictions were officially lifted Monday for Valley City residents after pumps at the master lift station was repaired.

City Administrator David Schelkoph says raw sewage was pumped into the Sheyenne River for about 30 hours last week. He says the state health department was notified immediately. Schelkoph says city crews reacted quickly to avoid multiple sewer backups for city residents.

Schelkoph says during routine maintenance the plug to the lift drain was broken and inundated the station. Schelkoph told the city commission he would have an update on the cause of the break during a special city commission meeting set for next Monday morning.
