CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Barnes County commission unanimously selected Beth Didier to become the next auditor to fill out the remaining term of Ed McGough who resigned earlier this year due to health issues. The position is up for election in November of 2014.

Didier said it was an honor to be selected as the new auditor and she looks forward to starting her new job in December. Didier worked in the Barnes County Auditor’s office for 9 years as a deputy earlier in her career.

She is currently employed as a Rural Development loan specialist for the USDA office in Valley City. Didier is also a board member with the North Dakota Winter Show.

The interview selection committee recommended Joe Sykora to become the new auditor last week but the board of commissioners decided to interview Didier a second time during a special board meeting on November 23.

Commissioner Phil Leitner announced during a special board meeting on November 26 that Sykora had withdrawn is name for appointment. According to Leitner, Sykora felt the new auditor should be selected unanimously instead of on a split vote. Commissioner Jon Froehlich favored the selection of Sykora but after he withdrew from the selection process he threw his support for Didier,

Beth Didier will take over in December as the new Barnes County Auditor. Didier and her husband Dana have 4 children and live near Ekelson.
