L. Johnson, 57, of Gwinner, ND, died in her home January 16, 2013, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and surrounded by family. She was diagnosed with cancer on October 12, 2004, and survived for 8 years, 3 months, and 4 days. Dr. Steen called her “The Energizer Bunny”.

Mary LuAnn, the third of five children born to Orlie and Hope (Warner) Johnson was born on March 15, 1955 in Breckenridge, Minnesota. She graduated from Milnor High School in 1973, and then attended NDSU. On June 18, 1979, Mary became employed with the Bobcat Company, Gwinner, North Dakota, and worked there until retiring April 1, 2010. In October of 1979, Mary moved to Gwinner making it her home, and in 2001 she bought her house. Mary adopted her beloved cat, Guzie, on Mother’s Day in 2001. Mary was very involved in her church, softball, and volleyball. She faithfully followed the Minnesota Twins, and enjoyed going to many Twins baseball games with her family. She also enjoyed following the Vikings, the Timberwolves, and the University of North Carolina.

Mary has five nieces and nephews who she loved with all her heart, Robin (Tom) Rehborg, Michelle (Trevor) Trautman, Kristi (Chad) Wheeler, Kevin (Heather) Johnson, and Aanders Johnson. Mary said she was always a “good” aunt, but it was her nieces’ and nephews’ children, Morgan, Shayla, Haley, Breena, Jenna, and Tyra who made her a “great” aunt.

Mary is survived by her siblings, Kenny (Shirley), Milnor, and Diana, Patti, and Rich, all of Fargo; her nieces and nephews; an uncle and three aunts, Lyle and Rafy Warner, Shephardsville, KY, Elaine Warner, West Fargo, and Marjorie Johnson, Milnor; and cousins, Robert Johnson, Marsha (Mark) Murphy, Paulette (Gary) Lien, Tim Tayer, Kraig Tayer, Carolyn (LaVerne) Colby, Barb (Glen) Koeppe, Brian (Paula) Tayer, Jeanine (Jeff) Odegard, Jerry Warner, Jolene (John) Schwalk, and David (Melissa) Warner. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, two aunts, Beverly Martinson and Jeanne Ford, three uncles, Everett Johnson, John Warner, and Jerry Martinson, and a cousin Delmont Warner.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church, Gwinner, ND. Her funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at GA Lutheran Church, with lunch to follow at the church, and then burial at Lakeside Cemetery, Milnor. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the Sargent County Relay for Life. Dahlstrom Funeral Home of Milnor is in charge of the arrangements.
