(NewsDakota.com)  For the first time since 1980, eight teams and their fans, family and friends gathered in Carrington for the State Class B Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament.  Fans enjoyed four games today, starting early this morning at 9:30am, with the last game at 5:30pm. Here are the results:

Dakota Prairie 7  Velva 3

The Class B Babe Ruth tournament started with a match up of Dakota Prairie, the district 2 champs, taking on Velva, the district 1 champs. 

Velva was the first to strike when Isaac Effertz scored from second base on an RBI single from Bryce Florence. Velva would add another two runs to the scoreboard with two RBIs from Aaron Dean and Brady Irmen allowing Nick Effertz and Bryce Florence to score in the bottom of the third. That lead would be safe for just one inning.

In the top of the fourth,  Dakota Prairie’s Tyler Gravseth got a single for the first hit of the game, which lead to  the first run. Again in the fifth, Dakota Prairie was able to make their mark with two runs tying the game at 3-3.

No more runs were scored until the seventh when the Dakota Prairie’s Hunter Sand  and Tyler Gravseth crossed home on a double from Jon Lund. Two more runs followed clenching the victory for Dakota Prairie with a final score of 7-3 in opening game of the tournament.

Thompson 4  Rolette/Rolla 3

District 4 Champion Thompson would score three runs in the bottom of the first and one run in the bottom of the fifth and would go on to defeat District 3 Champ Rolette/Rolla.  Calen Schwabe hit a RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Cadyn Schwabe from first, which would prove to be the winning run in the game.  Cadyn Schwabe and Malek Larimer both went 2-for-2 at the plate for Thompsom as well.  Brett Sutter was the winning pitcher and also the player of the game, he had seven strikeouts and allowed three walks and seven hits.

Beulah 5  Valley City 4

In game 3 of the afternoon, Valley City (District 6) played host to the Beulah Twisters (District 5).

It was the visiting  team that made their mark first when lead off batter John William Suter scored in the first inning. That was matched by Valley City’s Dalton Ondracek in the bottom half of the inning. 

After watching a Beulah run come across one more time in the third. Valley City took the lead back in the 4th when Sam Jensen hit a 2 RBI double with 2 outs. 

Beulah would answer one more time scoring 3 runs in the fifth on 3 RBIs from Braydon Nelson (2) and Devin Sardelli (1). Beulah held on to the lead with the final score 5-4. 

Kindred 6  Carrington 1

In the final game of the night, District 7 Champion Kindred played the host team Carrington from District 2.

Matt Nathan of Kindred picked up the win, he threw seven strong innings, had two strikeouts, gave up two walks and five hits and earned player of the game honors.  Carrington would get their first and only run in the bottom of the sixth inning when right fielder Jayden Rosenau hit a grounder to short scoring Braxton Hewitt from third base.  Brett Lyman was the losing pitcher for Carrington, he went four and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and six walks.  

Games will continue Saturday morning with loser out games, Velva VS Rolette at 10am, followed by Valley City VS Carrington at 12:30pm.  In the quarterfinals bracket starting at 3pm, Dakota Prairie will play Thompson and at 5:30pm Beulah will play Kindred.
