Helen (Gilbert) Schmoker, 77, of Jamestown, ND, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, November 11, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Clarice was born on December 13, 1937, in Bismarck, ND, the daughter of Oscar and Helen (Paul) Gilbert. She lived in Moffit, ND and moved several times because her father worked for the railroad. Clarice attended school in Moffit, ND, Hensler, ND, and graduated from Killdeer High School in 1955. She attended Business College in Jamestown and then was employed by Ward’s. Clarice moved to Minneapolis for two years where she worked for 3M. In 1959, Clarice moved back to Jamestown and was employed by First National Bank and the North Dakota State Hospital. On December 13, 1959 (on her birthday), Clarice married Clifford Schmoker. They have four children, Susan (Duane) Nordlum, Nancy (Bryan) Burow, Bonnie Nygaard, and Barbara Erickson. Clarice also has seven grandchildren, Amber (Ben) Backstrom, Jared Nygaard, Jessica Nygaard, Brittney Nygaard, Justin Burow, Amanda Erickson, and Kendra Erickson. Also surviving are sister, Jean Larsen; brother, Bill (Bertha) Gilbert; four great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Abigail, Sophia, and Chloe Backstrom; sister-in-law, Joyce Schmoker; and several nieces and nephews.

Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar & Helen Gilbert; sister & brother-in-law, Ruth & Ray Bulman; brother, Delvin Gilbert; brother-in-law, Arthur Larsen; mother & father-in-law, Ethel & George Schmoker; and brother-in-law, Wallace Schmoker.

Clarice enjoyed her time with her family and reading books. She spent a lot of time at their family cabin where she loved playing with her grandchildren and cuddling them. She was notorious for rocking her grandchildren and singing her version of lullabies. Her sister, Jean, spent many summers with her and they loved this time together. Clarice and Cliff spent time in Arizona during the winter months. Clarice and Cliff spent a lot of their time gardening, fishing, and playing cards. She loved to go to her grandchildren’s activities and she & Cliff were always baking and cooking for their family. Clarice will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Elmo Herman officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
