(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School baseball team was the beneficiary of mistakes made by their opponent on Monday. On Tuesday, one key mishap allowed their opponent to rally and pick up the victory.

An error on a routine pop fly in the infield with one out and the bases empty in the bottom of the sixth inning spurred the Kindred/Richland Vikings in their 4-3 win. Oakes had the lead at 3-1 before the missed opportunity to register the second out. What resulted was the next batter being hit by a pitch, then a double, followed later in the inning with three consecutive hits off of Mike McKenna.

Zander Bauer earned a no-decision, going five and two-thirds innings, registering three strikeouts. Oakes had a double and two singles from Michael Kelly.

The Tornadoes end the regular season as the #5 team in Class B Region I with a mark of 5-7, and will face the #4 seeded Falcons of Enderlin/Maple Valley (7-5) in round one of the Class B Region I Baseball Tournament at Central Cass High School in Casselton on Saturday. The Vikings finished the season as the best team with a mark of 10-2, and will have a first round bye.
