N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota State Water Commission began its annual discharge operations of the West End Devils Lake Outlet on May 8th at 125 cubic feet per second.

Meanwhile, discharges of 160 cubic feet per second are coming out of the East End Outlet right now. The combined discharge is up to 285 cfs.

Devils Lake is estimated to rise to a peak elevation of 1,452 feet in 2017.

Officials with the State Water Commission say the flows and water quality downstream will be monitored and discharges will be adjusted as necessary to meet targets set by the North Dakota Department of Health.

The outlets are allowed to discharge water once the level on Lake Ashtabula reaches 1266 feet.
