OAKES, N.D. (AP) — A 10-year-old boy from a small North Dakota town will be shooting arrows at a world archery championship this weekend.

Braysen Sagert will participate in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) World Championships June 7-9 in Louisville, Kentucky. His family says Braysen is the first archer from his small town of Oakes to qualify for the competition.

Braysen began practicing archery when he was 4. He started competing a year later with the Oakes National Archery in the Schools Program club.

The young archer finished with a score of 279 at the NASP National Championship in Louisville, qualifying for a place in this weekend’s world championships.

Braysen says his strategy for scoring high at the event is “just thinking about shooting, really.”
