A 63 year-old man took his own life after negotiations with law enforcement that ended early Monday morning.

Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser reports that the man had texted his friends a “suicide note”.

“The call came into the Law Enforcement Center from one of his friends,” Sheriff Kaiser stated. “The call alerted officers, who negotiated with the man near the Anchor Bar north of Jamestown.”

Officers talked to the man through a closed door for more than 4 hours. No shots were fired by officers as they negotiated the man’s surrender, which was unsuccessful.

“The man’s death is being investigated by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation,” Sheriff Kaiser pointed out. “It’s procedure when incidents like this occur in front of officers and deputies.”

Sheriff Kaiser says the man’s name could be released later today. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Jamestown Police Department and the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
