JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After a postponement in May for the annual drag races in Jamestown, the Jamestown Drag Racing Association hosted nearly 1000 spectators in June at the event.

“Overall a great race weekend for spectators, racers, and those of us working to make the event happen,” stated JDA member Mike Trautman. “Really couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out after getting rained out and expecting to not be able to have our race this year. Kind of feel like this date worked out better for us than May would’ve.”

Trautman says they had around 936 come out to the races June 3th and July 1st. He says now, they’re going to meet and discuss how the event turned out and look forward to the construction of the new drag track.

“[We’re] also going to put in for a date in 2019 at the airport for next year’s race,” Trautman said. “We don’t know that date and won’t for a while.”

A total of 135 racers participated on Saturday and 136 on Sunday. In the 701 Shootout, 10 individuals entered and the winner was Mark Staudinger of Mandan.
