STEELE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The LaMoure Babe Ruth baseball team captured their first State Championship since 2005 with a 3-2 victory over Thompson Tuesday at Pirate Field.

After a scoreless first two innings, the A’s found the board first, with an unconventional RBI courtesy of Garrett Hebl.

Later on in the inning, Corban Potts continued his ability to drive in runs during the tournament with a sacrifice fly scoring Mac Bierman.

Thompson would add a pair of runs of their own in the bottom half of the third, and the score would remain tied until Potts drove in Bierman in the fifth, which turned out to be the game winner.

Bierman went six and two-thirds innings on the mound, allowing only two hits, while striking out seven to earn the win. Anthony Hanson came on to close out the game, earned a one out save, and the celebration soon followed.

LaMoure head coach Tyler Thielges spoke with Jason Metko after the game, and savored the moment for him and his group of young men.
