JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High volleyball team rallied back from a 2-0 hole Tuesday night and eventually succumbed in five sets to Legacy in their first home match of the season. The Sabers won the match 3-2 (25-10, 25-20, 21-25, 24-26, 15-9)

The Sabers dominated the match early including a 25-10 win in set one. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Blue Jay volleyball team that scared of a big match in my eight years here,” said head coach Sara Hegerle after the match.

The nerves certainly showed through, but in the second set you saw glimpses of life from the Jays. This team has only two players who played in the 2017 state title match back and another, Abby Kallebach, who played a lot in 2017 but missed state.

Legacy still found a way to win the second pulling away from the Jays in the final few points for a 25-20 win.

Jamestown finally got all-state hitter Courtney Peterson and sophomore Grace Hegerle involved in the offense and they won sets three and four. In the fourth, Legacy had a pair of match points leading 24-22. Jamestown scored the final four points to force the fifth.

Legacy took control of the fifth set at about the halfway point, extending the lead to 12-6.

Jamestown travels to Watford City on Friday and Williston on Saturday. The next broadcast of Blue Jay volleyball is September 6th against Century.
