BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – This weekend will kick-off a few outdoor activities for the North Dakota youth.

The North Dakota Game & Fish Department reports that beginning today, the youth deer season opens and runs through September 23rd.

Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier says youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult in the field.

Leier says it’s all about the positive experience for the youth in North Dakota. He says if deer aren’t the focus, youth waterfowl weekend begins tomorrow and runs through Sunday.

Leier says the hope is to encourage the next generation of hunters. Leier says the attention should be on the youth and not getting ahead on the hunting season for adults or finding loopholes.

You can catch Doug Leier every Thursday at 7:20 AM on Big Dog Country 95.5 FM with JD in the Morning.
