DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The Hi-Liner will start the postseason at the same place they ended the regular season; Tuesday afternoon they face The Devils Lake Firebirds on the road in the opening round of The Eastern Dakota Conference Tournament.

A week ago Valley City hung on to beat Devils Lake in a 5 set match  25-12, 16-25, 25-14, 26-28, 15-8. The Firebirds finished with a 14-6 regional record and The Hi-Liners 13-7 seeding them 4th and 5th.

In the 4th set last Tuesday, Valley City was on the brink of finishing the match. They led 20-14 before a rally by Devils Lake keep the game going. Coach Mattie Cruff felt the win was a showing of her team’s resiliency

 

Devils Lake is also the host site of The Class B Region 4 tournament and with the semifinals already scheduled The Hi-Liners and Firebirds are forced to play an afternoon match starting at 2pm.

Win or lose, Valley City is back in Devils Lake Friday. A victory has them in the championship semifinals against the winner of Davies and South at 6, a loss puts them in elimination bracket at 2.
