CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) For the first time in school history, the Carrington Cardinals will have an archery team compete at an archery tournament. The Carrington archery program started this winter for grades 5-12 and consists of just over 50 individual team members. Their first tournament is scheduled for this Saturday, January 19th, in New Rockford, starting at 8am and runs throughout the day.

First year Co-Coach Greg Hoeckle talks about the new beginnings for the archery program at Carrington.

 

He says for their first year they want to concentrate on technique and shooting style.

 

The tourneys are broken down into grades, the elementary section are grades 4-5, Carrington hasn’t started competition for fourth grade yet, the middle school consists of grades 6-8, and High School grades 9-12. Most of the tourneys Carrington is participating in this year are around the area, New Rockford this Saturday, Kensal next week Saturday, then Pingree the following weekend (Feb. 1 & 2) and February 16th at Gackle, Feb. 23rd at Medina and the State Archery tournament will be held in Minot on Saturday, March 23rd.

 

 

The tourney consists of several different shooting lengths and groups.

The participants so far have been really positive about the new archery program in Carrington and are excited to get their first tournament experience under their belts.
