JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Residents will have better access to the Jamestown Municipal Court this spring following curent renovations.

The court will be switching places with the North Dakota Highway Patrol, allowing for more access. Maintenance Supervisor Howie Peuser says with the Highway Patrol downsizing, this presented the perfect opportunity to make the switch.

The Jamestown Municipal Court can currently be found downstairs in the Law Enforcement Center until renovations are complete.

“I helped build the courthouse in the 80’s,” Peuser stated. “There have been so many issues with individuals finding the municipal courts before and the access has always been a problem.”

Peuser says the move comes as part of the $114,000 remodel that will install security upgrades including ballistic materials and more for not only the Clerk of Courts, but also the Jamestown Police Department and Stutsman County Sheriff’s Department.

“Right now, the municipal court is located in the basement of the Law Enforcement Center,” Peuser explains. “Once we finish the remodel, patrons can locate the municipal court through the main lobby of the LEC. There will also be bathroom access, more parking and more security for the Clerk of Court.”

Pueser estimates the remodel and move to all be finished within the next two months.
