JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – University of Jamestown students will be helping file tax returns for individuals who make $45,000 or less in income.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program also offers free tax help to persons with disabilities and are limited English speaking taxpayers in need of preparing their own tax returns.

“We have two volunteers who have been specially certified to prepare nonresident tax returns for our international students,” states Teddi Jo Paulson, Assistant Professor of Financial Planning.

“We operate on an appointment basis,” Paulson points out. “You need to bring any tax document you’ve received, photo ID, and social security card for taxpayers and dependents.”

The program cannot do anything with depreciation and inventory for a business.

“We’re good on most everything else,” Paulson says.

The program is available to the public and students at the University on Saturday, February 2nd, 9th, and 16th from 10 AM to 4 PM. It’s also available Tuesday, February 5th from 11 AM to 2 PM and Thursday, February 7th from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Appointments can be made by calling 701-253-4468 or by emailing vita@uj.edu. You’re asked to lave a message including a phone number. The VITA office can be found in Unruh Sheldon 106.
