JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – Noelle Josephson (FR/Ramsey, MN) scored 13 points while Emma Stoehr (SO/Woodbury, MN) added 10 as the University of Jamestown women’s basketball team closed out the season with a 70-69 win over No. 14 Morningside (Iowa) Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.
Jamestown took a 20-12 lead after the first quarter behind 6-of-12 shooting from the field, including 4-of-9 from three-point range.
Morningside outscored UJ 20-19 in the second, but the Jimmies took a 39-32 lead into the half.
Josephson sank a pair of free throws with 7:59 left in the third to give Jamestown a 12-point lead, 45-33. A 12-4 Morningside run cut UJ’s lead to 49-45 with 2:16 in the quarter.
The Mustangs rallied to tie the game on Faith Meyer’s basket with 2:47 left. Meyer missed the free throw on the and-one opportunity, but later sank one of two on Morningside’s next possession to retake the lead at 69-68.
Josephson scored the eventual game-winning basket with 1:53, and the Jimmie defense forced Morningside to miss its final six shots and commit four turnovers down the stretch.
Jenna Doyle (SR/Princeton, MN) added nine points for UJ, and Mya Buffetta (SO/Mountain Iron, MN) chipped in with eight. Marina Nowak (SR/Rogers, MN) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Jamestown finishes the season at 14-16 and 8-14 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
