JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The semifinals are set for the Region 3 Boys Basketball Tournament after Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter, Carrington, LaMoure/Litchville-Marion and Ellendale all picked up wins in the quarterfinals Tuesday night at the Jamestown Civic Center.
Game #1 – Napoloen/Gackle-Streeter 47, Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier 46
Napoleon-Gackle/Streeter would be the first team to punch a ticket to the Region semifinals after hanging on to a one point victory in a wild finish.
Despite finishing with a lower field goal percentage, NGS did just enough to win and got just enough from their leading scorer Jamison Fetting. Fettig hit his first two 3’s of the game, but would miss 8 of his next 9 3’s. However, Fettig would scrap together a game high 22 points to lead and elevate the Imperials.
Fettig wasn’t the only hero for NGS either.
With less than a minute left, NGS was down a point. After EKM missed a front end of a 1-and-1, EKM put NGS’ Ethan Kleppe on the line with less than 3 seconds left. Kleppe would knock down both free throws to a thunderous roar from the crowd, and give his Imperials the win.
EKM was led by Cale Mathern with a team high 18 points in the season finale.
Game #2 Carrington 50, Kidder County 43
After finding themselves down double-digits, Carrington would storm back to advance to the region semifinals.
Carrington struggles offensively against the Kidder County zone in the first half shooting 7/20 and turning the ball over 8 times.
The 2nd half was a different story. Carrington outscored Kidder County 35-22 and pulled away late to come out victorious.
In the last minute, Carrington went 6-6 from the free throw line to balloon the lead up a bit.
The Cardinals had a balanced attack on offense. There were three different players with double digit points and one more scorer with 9 points.
The leading scorers were Payton Smith (CAR) with 15 points and Austin Schmidt (KC) with 14 points.
Game #3 LaMoure/Litchville-Marion 65, Linton-HMB 40
Cole Baumiller scored 15 seconds into the game for the Lions. But LaMoure/Litchville-Marion would score 12 of the next 14 points to take a lead they would not give up on the way to their 15th straight win and a spot in the semifinals Thursday night.
The Loboes shot 79 percent from the field in the second half as they outscored the Lions 34-17. They shot 66 percent for the game.
Jamison Kramer led the way with 22 points. Rory Gentzkow scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half, including all three of his 3-pointers. Shay Ness added 10 points and Alex Klever had nine points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Baumiller led the Lions with 12 points and six rebounds. Paul McCrory added 11 points.
Game #4 Ellendale 61, Strasburg-Zeeland 48
The Cardinals blistered the nets, shooting 68 percent in the second half on the way to the 13 point win and avenging a five point loss to the Clippers three weeks ago.
The taller Cardinals outrebounded the Clippers 34-14. Strasburg-Zeeland only had two offensive rebounds for the entire game.
Scott Wagner had more rebounds by himself, 15, than the Clippers had as a team 14. Wagner added a game high 24 points. Austin Molan added 21 points and three steals. Cody Merkel had five points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Alex Scherr scored 11 of his team high 13 points in the second half for S-Z but it wasn’t enough. Jake Wagner had 12 points and four rebounds for the Clippers.
