JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Parks & Recreation are seeking funding through Jamestown Tourism’s Capital Construction Fund to update the bleachers at the historic Jack Brown Stadium.
The City Promotion Capital Construction Fund is distributed each March and October of every year after organizations submit proposals and requests for funding their projects. One of the projects for March 2019 is at Jack Brown Stadium.
The Jamestown Parks & Recreation Department Foundation is seeking $50,000 for new bleachers and press box.
“It’s a needed upgrade for Jack Brown Stadium,” Director Doug Hogan states in his application. “The current wooden bleachers and press box were originally built in the late 1960’s. Over the years, repairs as needed have been made. Those repairs have become more frequent in recent years to the point that they now present safety concerns.”
Two years ago, the stadium dugouts were renovated and have made them taller than the older ones, leaving less spectator seating. The bleachers would be elevated and ADA accessible. The goal is to have the stadium compete with other larger communities for tournaments.
Hogan says the plan is to start the project in the fall of 2019 and complete it in the spring of 2020, depending on the funding.
“In the past, the community has been fortunate to host either a state class A or class B high school tournament. Other larger cities have made upgrades to their baseball facilities and because of this, the North Dakota High School Activities ASsociation has adopted a rotation for these tournaments. We are in that rotation. Jamestown Parks & Recreation alone cannot compete with the level of resources that the larger communities have. Working together we can.”
The proposal will be considered at 11:30 PM on Wednesday, March 13th.
