NAPOLEON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A man is in custody after surrendering to police following a nearly eight hour standoff in Napoleon Saturday.

Law enforcement received a call at around 6 AM that a 54 year-old man was threatening suicide. After responding to the man’s home, they found he had barricaded himself inside and threatened officers.

Logan County Emergency Manager Daniel Schwartz reports the man had a gun and it was believed no one else was in the home with him.

Bismarck SWAT arrived on scene and brought in crisis negotiators. A 2-block perimeter was established.

The man’s girlfriend had alerted police to the situation. The unidentified man has had incidents with law enforcement before.

At 2:30 PM, the man surrendered to police. He’s been charged with terrorizing. Schwartz says he’s been taken to Bismarck.
