ECKELSON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A 4 year-old boy escaped serious injury after he was struck by a westbound BNSF train while standing on the railroad track in Eckelson, ND.

The Barnes County Sheriff’s office said the engineer applied the emergency brake to slow the train down that was pulling empty coal cars before the front of the engine struck the boy and threw him into the ditch.

Authorities responded to the call shortly after 2:33pm on Thursday, March 21 in Eckelson, ND. Once again the 4 year-old suffered non-life threatening injuries. The incident remains under investigation with the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s office said the boy is listed in stable condition in a Fargo hospital.
