GLENFIELD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Head Coach Rick Christianson for the Midkota/Dakota Prairie/Lakota/Griggs County Central Mustangs is entering his 29th season as HC, he started the program in 1991, a year before the Midkota school district was formed. The baseball coop with the four schools started four years ago. Coach Christianson is excited about the upcoming season even though he lost four All-Region players due to graduation last year, including Cole Varnson, Hunter Gibson, Hunter Sand and Colton Berg, all four are playing college athletics around the area. Sand, Gibson and Berg at Valley City State University and Varnson at the University of Jamestown.

“We will be a bit inexperienced at the varsity level to start the season, but I feel we have a number of quality ball players back that can step up and play at a very competitive level,” Christianson stated. The Mustangs went 12-8 overall last year and finished runner-up to Carrington in Region III.

Coach Christianson joined the “Greg in the Morning” show on KDAK radio in Carrington on Tuesday morning, and said that their first game will be next week Tuesday, April 9th at Hatton, if field conditions permit.

The Mustangs have several assistants once again this year, including a new assistant coach.

Class B Region III for High School baseball will have just four teams this year, Kidder County, Carrington, Sheyenne/New Rockford and Midkota/DP/L/GCC, as Medina/Pingree/Buchanan will play a JV/JH schedule for this season.

He said the region will be a very competitive region once again.

The Region III tourney will held May 20th & 21st in Steele, the State tourney will be in Fargo.
