BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 2019 High School baseball season opened up on Friday for the Cardinals of Carrington at Dwyer Field at Bismarck Shiloh Christian School. The Cardinals shut both of their opponents out, allowing just one hit in each game. Carrington beat Harvey/Wells County 9-0 in the first game of the day and then beat Velva/Drake-Anamoose 3-0.

In the first game Friday morning against HWC, Carrington Senior Drew Page had a no-hitter going through 5 1/3 innings when Sophomore Landen Monge hit a single with one out in the top of the sixth inning. Monge’s single would be the only hit of the contest for the Hornets of Harvey/WC. The Hornets defense committed six errors. Page was 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI single and scored two runs. Senior Kyle Leapaldt was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the second game of the day, Leapaldt pitched a perfect game through 6 1/3 innings and striking out 13 Aggies batters. With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Senior Colton Frankl hit a triple to the left-center field gap and that would be the only hit of the game for the Aggies of Velva/Drake-Anamoose. Senior Payton Smith had three singles and scored a run. Leapaldt was 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk and scored a run.

The next scheduled game for Carrington will be in Carrington on Tuesday, April 9th against the Hornets of Harvey/Wells County for a non-region game.
