Jan C Lewellyn, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019, in the home she shared with her sister in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jan was born in Jamestown, ND, on September 18, 1950, to Albert and Nelle Lewellyn. She was a graduate of Valley City High School in Valley City, ND, and the Wahpeton School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. She moved to Las Vegas, NV, in 1969, and was employed by the Las Vegas Police Dept. for several years.
Jan attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice as well as a Master of Arts degree in Mass Communication. In 2012, she received a Master of Science Degree in Health Services Management from Argosy University, Phoenix, AZ.
When she left the Police Dept., Jan set up the first office for the Nevada State Bar in Las Vegas; worked as a lobbyist to the Nevada State Legislature; served as assistant to the Director of the University Medical Center; administered the N. Las Vegas Court system; and from 1998 to 2000, was an adjunct instructor at the Community College of Southern Nevada, developing a new class on law practice management.  She was involved with many non-profit organizations in Las Vegas before moving to San Diego in 2001.
In San Diego, from 2003 to 2009, Jan was Clinic Manager for the Healing Arts Health Center, an acupuncture center, doubling the patient volume with her management skills. When the owner of the clinic passed away, Jan found a buyer for the clinic and helped the new Acupuncture physician get organized.
Jan’s connection to the Toastmasters organization was one of her biggest passions over the years. She had joined them in Las Vegas, and then joined a group in San Diego where she was very involved and held nearly every office available right up to Southern Division Governor.  When she moved back to Las Vegas in 2013, she rejoined the group there. She was much loved by her fellow Toastmasters in both communities for her enthusiasm, beautiful smile, willingness to take on any project and her ability to organize everything from black tie fundraisers to area conventions. She loved the organization and was a contributing member up to the last few months of her life.
Jan was diagnosed with cancer in 2014, and spent the next 5.5 years fighting it as anyone who followed her on Facebook knows. She had a very deep and abiding faith in God and held an optimistic viewpoint of her journey over the years.  When she knew the end was coming, she embraced it, looking forward to being with her heavenly Father.
Jan loved music, photography, the beauty of nature, animals, travel and all of her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, as well as her friends in life as well as on Facebook. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, even those who had never met her, but loved her from her Facebook posts. Her beautiful smile and indomitable spirit will long be cherished by all with whom she came in contact.
Jan is preceded in death by her mother and father, Albert and Nelle Lewellyn, her sister, Sharon Wright, and her brother, Dennis Lewellyn, all from Valley City, ND.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy McDonald, and her beloved Yorkshire terrier, Eliott, who live in Las Vegas, NV.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, at 2 pm, at Journey United Methodist Church, 6450 Stewart Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89110.
