VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Connor May’d three-run triple highlighted an eight run sixth inning as Valley City snapped an eight game losing streak and picked up an EDC win 8-3 over Wahpeton at Charlie Brown Field Tuesday night. The Huskies won the non-conference game 9-4 with five runs in the sixth inning.

In game one, Bryce Schmidt held the Hi-Liners to just five hits over five innings. But in the sixth, he gave up six runs and seven hits before being lifted after May’s 3-run triple that gave the Hi-Liners the 6-3 lead.

Avery Benefeld led the Hi-Liners with 3 hits. Mitchell Taylor, John Beutler, Braxton Jorissen and Alex Thornton had two hits each as the Hi-Liners pounder out 14 hits.

Mitchell Taylor got the win. He scattered seven hits over seven innings. All three runs were earned, he did not walk a batter and struck out five.

In game two, Wahpeton scored five times in the sixth to break a 4-4 tie for the non-conference win. Benefeld, Briar Harvey and Mason Haugen had two hits each for the Hi-Liners.

With the conference win, Valley City is now 2-6 in the conference and are now 3-12 overall. Thursday the Hi-Liners will host Devils Lake for two games with game one the conference counter at 5pm.
