Thoughts:
Against West Fargo Sheyenne, we played some of our best tennis of the year.  Senior Rose Zeltinger played with Cali Halgrimson for the first time this season and they had a ton of fun on the courts.  They worked together and played many high level points.  Olivia and Lexia moved more than I have ever seen.  Olivia streaked across the court multiple times to go put the ball away.  Lexia smashed more balls today for winners than she ever has.
Hope, Maisie, and Drew all played with high intensity and made their opponents work.  They played excellent defense with zero give up.  They were all three fun to watch.  Drew played her first EDC match of the year against an All-State player.  She kept her confidence and attitude up, worked hard, and loved being on the court.  Great job, Drew.
After losing to Sheyenne at Courts Plus, we moved to Sheyenne High School for our consolation match against Fargo North.  In that match, we threw out a line-up that could combat anything that the Spartans could throw at us.  After looking at the match-up, we knew we had a chance in the underdog 8 seed against 5 seed tilt.   Rose and Lexia were up and down, but finished up.  They were moving together, believing, and putting the balls away. Great work ladies.  Hope and Breck played a very solid team.  Hope was very insightful and encouraging with Breck the entire match.  Their attitudes stayed up which means their footwork and aggressiveness did also.  They won a very tight 1st set in a tiebreaker and then kept rolling in the second.
With North’s line-up, we knew that 2 and 3 singles would be very tough and they were.  Maisie and Olivia fought through.  Maisie was down 6-0, 5-0 and was able to win both games on the next change-over.  Great never-give-up attitude.  Cali was right there with Lauren Harr in the first set at #1 singles.
There was some craziness at the EDC tourney this year.  The #2 seed lost a very close match to make the championship and then followed that by losing in the state qualifier to the #5 seed.  But – the #5 seed was crushed in the first round 5-0 by the #4 seed and the #4 seed then doesn’t state qualify because they lost to the #6 seed.  Then, we lost 3-2 as the #8 seed to the #5 seed that state qualified showing we are right there and have a lot to look forward to as a team!  It is a lot of fun when we have such great parody in our sport.
Next action is the individual tournament tomorrow and Saturday in Fargo.
