FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 2019 Scheels All-Star Softball Series opened on Monday night in Fargo and the West All-Stars took the first two games of the series by scores of 7-5 and 10-8.

In game one, the West scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to break 4-4 tie on the way to a 7-5 win. Kennedy Kuntz of Dickinson had a home run and drove in five runs for the West.

Senior Athlete of the Year in Class B, Lexi Buhr of the State Champ Central Cass Squirrels had four hits for the East and took the loss in the circle. Valley  City’s Grace Scherr was 1 for 3 with an rbi. Hi-Liner teammate Becca Thompson was 0 for 1 with a stolen base and a run scored. Gabby Nelson of Fargo Shanley hit a solo home run.

In game two, the West scored two runs in the top of the seventh for a 10-8 come-from-behind win. Kuntz again led the West with two hits, including a home run and three rbi. For the East, Becca Thompson was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an rbi. Grace Scherr was 1 for 3 with a run. Nelson from Shanley, the Senior Athlete of the Year for Class A, was 2 for 5 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and two rbi.

The final game of the series will be tonight at 5:30 at the Starion Bank Turf Field at the Sanford Sports Complex in Bismarck.
