ENDERLIN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Nelson County scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and to overtake Valley City for a 6-4 win over Post 60 in the Enderlin Wood Bat Tournament Saturday afternoon after rain delayed the start of the game by 28 minutes.

With Valley City up 2-1 in the top of the fourth and two runners on, Avery Bennefeld singled to right center field to drive on two runs and give the his team a three run lead.

 

 

But the Owls would comeback in bottom of the inning when the first four batters reached base, the last Dayton Miles reached on a walk that drove in Cole Varnson to make it 4-2. After a wild pitch brought in another run to make it 4-3, Nelson County scored two and take the lead on a bizarre play.

 

 

With two out and the bases empty, the next batter, Alex Wolfe would take advantage of the ground rules.

 

 

Damian Forde went six innings to pick up the win.He allowed five hits, four runs, three earned with four walks and seven strikeouts. Hunter Sand tossed a clean seventh for the save.

Avery Bennefeld, Mitchell Taylor, John Beutler, Easton Hesch and Connor Drogan had one hit each. Bennefeld had two rbi giving him a team high 15 for the season.

Post 60 falls to 9-10-1 overall and will play Hillsboro/Central Valley at 1pm Sunday for third place. Coverage begins at 12:45 with the pregame show on 1490 AM KOVC/96.3 FM and newsdakota.com.
