ENDERLIN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Connor Aanderud’s two out, two run double in the bottom of the third inning broke a scoreless tie and lifted Hillsboro/Central Valley to a 3-1 win over Valley City in the third place game at the Enderlin Wood Bat Classic Sunday afternoon.

With two out, Patrick Limke singled, and Gavin Wright was hit by a pitch. Then Aanderud drilled a 3-2 pitch over the the head of left fielder Grady Karges to the left field corner for the two bagger.

Valley City cut the lead in half in the sixth. Riley Gerhardt and Easton Hesch both were hit by a pitch to open the inning. With one out, Briar Harvey hit a ground ball up the middle, second baseman Braden Soderberg played the grounder, flipped it to shortstop Colton Anderson for the out at second but the throw to first was low and first baseman Mason Richter could not play the ball cleanly allowing Gerhardt to score from third to make it 2-1.

But the Blue Sox would get the run back in the bottom half of the sixth when Richter scored on a wild pitch.

Avery BennefelD had two of the three hits for Post 60. Mitchell Taylor had the other one. Alex Thornton pitched well in the loss. He allowed three hits and three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out five.

Patrick Limke got the win for the Sox going five -plus innings. He allowed two hits and one unearned run with a walk and six strikeouts. But he did hit five batters. Aanderud had two of the three hits for Hillsboro/Central Valley.

Valley City falls to 9-11-1 overall. They will travel to Wahpeton Monday for a an East Region doubleheader. You can hear both games on AM 1490 KOVC/96.3 FM and newsdakota.com with coverage beginning at 5:15.
