Leila Hirschkorn, 83, Valley City, ND, died Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.

Leila Mae Anderson was born in Valley City July 3, 1936 to Fritz and Berneice (Hanson) Anderson.  She attended school in Valley City graduating from Valley City High School in 1954.  Through her high school years she worked as a waitress at Foss Drug.

After graduation she went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Valley City and Jamestown, ND.  She was employed until 1981.  On April 1, 1956, she married Dwayne Leadbetter.  They divorced in 1982.  On June 24, 1983, she married Norman Hirschkorn.  He died in 1999.

Leila was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City, serving on the Alter Committee for several years.  She was active in the Eagles and AMVETS Auxiliaries, serving as an officer for several years in both auxiliaries.  In 1989, she was named Mrs. Eagle and in 1999 was chosen AMVETS member of the year.

She is survived by two sons, Steven Leadbetter, Seminole, FL;  Scott (Sue) Leadbetter, Valley City; two daughters, Lori (William) Leatherbee, Florence, KY;  LeAnn Leadbetter, Robbinsdale, MN; five grandchildren, Jaci (Blaine) Heidt, Bismarck, ND; Joshua (Celia) Leadbetter, Valley City; Michael (Audrey Cruz) Leadbetter, San Franciso, CA; Luke and Anna Leatherbee, Florence, KY; great-grandson Dillan Heidt; and great-granddaughters Kenadi Heidt and Katie Spiczka.  Leila is also survived by her brother Rick Anderson, and sisters-in-law Bonnie Anderson and Judy Anderson all of Valley City.

Leila is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Robert Anderson and Gordon Anderson.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday, July 21, with a prayer service at 7 pm at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel.  Visitation will continue Monday, July 22 at 10:00 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City.  Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Valley City.
