OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Day 1 of the American Legion District 7 Tournament consisted of a pair of blowouts, a pitcher’s duel and a close affair that snowballed to a larger win.

Here are the results from all four games:

#1 Fargo Bombers-11
#8 Ellendale-1

Despite putting up 11 runs in a mercy run victory in six innings, the Fargo Bombers collected just six hits. The kicker? Ellendale pitchers walked 13 batters including three occasions with the bases loaded.

The Bombers were patient and let Ellendale’s pitchers work themselves into trouble. A three run 2nd inning started things as the Bombers drew two bases loaded walks and Dan Christensen would record an RBI with a sac fly. There were only five RBI’s for the Bombers from their 11 runs and Christensen had 4 of them. Christensen reached twice by HPB’s, had an RBI groundout and ended the game with a two run single to make it 11-1.

Ellendale’s lone run was an RBI double from catcher Clayton Grueneich.

#2 LaMoure-11
#7 Fargo Comets-6

LaMoure jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, and it looked like Post 19 wasn’t going to have any issues. That wasn’t the case.

Fargo Post 400 would score three runs in the 4th to get to the LaMoure starter Weston Klein. Klein had three scoreless innings to begin the ballgame and had the strikeout pitcher working, but Post 400 had the three run 4th, capped off by an RBI single from Caleb Carlisle, to cut the lead in half. LaMoure would get one back in the bottom of the 4th before the Comets would score three more times in the 5th inning to make it a 7-6 game. Klein was chased from the game and it was just a one run deficit entering the bottom of the 5th.

LaMoure, however, would score four times over the final two innings that were capped off with an RBI double from Landon Piehl and an RBI single from Noah Pederson. The Comets gave LaMoure a battle down the stretch but couldn’t pull it out.

Jace Hanson led LaMoure on offense reaching three times and scoring three times. Mac Bierman produced a pair of RBI’s as well in LaMoure’s 11-6 win.

#4 FHL-4
#5 Enderlin-1

In the closest game of the first day, FHL pulled out a three run victory over Enderlin.

Leadoff hitter Broden Frolek scored the first run of the game on an error after leading off with a single in the 1st. Frolek would drive in the second run of the game with a base knock in the 2nd inning, too. FHL’s 2-0 lead stayed until the 5th inning when Enderlin’s Colten Sorenson delivered the lone RBI of the day for Enderlin on a base knock. The lead was cut to one at that point before FHL scored twice in the 5th inning with an RBI singe from catcher Preston Bohnenstingl and a run producing fielder’s choice from Hunter Medenwaldt.

#3 Oakes-16
#6 Lisbon-5

Lisbon took an early 2-0 lead in the first, but it didn’t last long. After an RBI double from Hunter Schultz and an RBI ground out from Simon Sveum, Oakes’ lineup was ruthless in a 16-5 rout.

Oakes scored 5 times in the 1st, 7 times in the 3rd and 4 times in the 4th. Garret Meehl and Alex Nelson each scored three times and Tyler Voightman had 3 RBI’s. Taylor Schall also scored twice with a two-run double late in the game.

Oakes’ starter Jaidy Gebhardt settled in nicely after the opening frame and lasted into the 5th inning before being pulled due to pitch count. Lisbon scored three runs late but it wasn’t enough as Oakes won 16-5.
