CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The first day of the 2019 Class B District 4 Legion Baseball Tournament was held at Carrington City Park, all the higher seeds advanced expect for Rolla the five seed defeating the four seed Kidder County, here are the results:

Cando 3 Harvey 2

Harvey Post 28 scored the first two runs of the ballgame in the top of the sixth inning, and were looking to upset Cando Post 79, the three seed. But Cando scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and beat the sixth seed of the tourney. Keaton Nelson knocked in the winning run in the home half of the seventh, he was 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles and an RBI. Austin Wagner also had two hits, including a single and double and an RBI. Matt Kittleson was 2-for-2 at the plate for Harvey, with two singles.

New Rockford 14 Wishek/Linton 0, 5 innings

New Rockford Post 30 didn’t waste anytime as they scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning, added one more run in the second and three in the fourth and cruised to victory in the first round as they improve to 20-4 overall. Lead-off batter Bo Belquist had three hits, a single and two triples, scored three runs and knocked in two. Jacin Grenz was 2-for-2 at the plate with a single and a double for W/L. Colter Soderholm picked up the victory, Joe Fode suffered the loss.

Carrington Post 25   14     Washburn Post 12   5

Payton Smith went 4-5, scored 4 runs, drove in 3 runs, & added 2 stolen bases to lead Carrington offensively in a 14-5 victory over Washburn. Washburn made it interesting early scoring 5 unearned runs in the third inning, taking a 5-2 lead. Carrington answered with a run in the home half of the third on Brandon Larson’s RBI single that scored Seth Nelson. Carrington blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth scoring nine runs on 7 hits, , 3 walks, & 3 Washburn errors. Tyson Lee went 2-3, scored 2 runs, & drove in 2 runs. Lucas Geiszler went 2-5 & drove in 2 runs. Carrington stole 13 bases in the game, Drew Page & Seth Nelson both had 3 stolen bases. Page was the winning pitcher going 5 innings, allowing all 5 unearned runs, 5 hits, 3 walks, and struck out four batters. Peyton Hall took the loss on the mound for Washburn.

Rolla (Northern Lights) Post 235     4           Kidder County Post 231    1

Rolla scored 3 unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning and defeated fourth seeded Kidder County 4-1. All 5 runs in the game were unearned. Kidder County scored it’s only run in the bottom of the first inning when Taryn Schmidt scored on a throwing error. Post 231 had just 1 hit in the game, a bunt single from Parker Hager to leadoff the fourth inning but was stranded at third base.

Cooper Medrud picked up the victory on the mound for Rolla going the distance allowing just the 1 hit & 1 unearned run. Medrud struck out 8 batters & walked 3 batters, and hit 1 batter. Rolla had 6 hits in the game from 6 different players.

1245pm – Kidder County vs. Washburn (elimination game)

3pm – Cando vs. New Rockford (quarterfinal)

530pm – Carrington vs. Rolla (quarterfinal)
