VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Grand Forks scored two runs with two out in the second inning and Ty Lorenz tossed a complete game leading the Blues to a 6-3 win over Valley City in a state qualifying game at the East Division baseball tournament Thursday afternoon at Charlie Brown Field.

Oliver Wolfe’s rbi single broke the scoreless tie in the second inning. Brady Lewandowski singled in a run a batter later to make it 2-0. The Blues would add three in the fifth and another run in the sixth.

Valley City avoided the shutout with a run in the sixth on John Beutler’s rbi single. They would add two more runs in the seventh. Avery Bennefeld had an rbi double in the inning then scored on Jacob Johnson’s single.

Connor May had two of Valley City’s seven hits.

Ty Lorenz scattered seven hits in his seven innings of work. He allowed three earned runs, struck out one won and did not walk a batter.

Valley City ends the season 16-19-1. Grand Forks came back later in the night and downed Fargo 6-4 in nine innings. The Blues improve to 18-24 and are headed to next week’s state tournament.
