VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A trial for a Mesa, Arizona man accused of shooting a Valley City man has been canceled.

During a change of plea hearing on Thursday, September 5th Cornelious Edward Johnson entered guilty pleas on two felony counts of attempted murder and one count of felony robbery stemming from the November 21st 2018 shooting in Valley City.

The attempted murder charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison while the felony robbery charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

During the hearing, Judge Jay Schmitz ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set a sentencing date of October 24th at 9am in the Barnes County Courthouse.

The 22 year-old Johnson fled North Dakota after the shooting in Valley City. On January 30th of 2019 U.S. Marshals arrested him in Maricopa County Arizona.

Meanwhile, the 20 year-old male victim shot once in the upper body continues to make a full recovery.
