ESMOND, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A man was killed after failing to yield to a semi at an intersection along Highway 19 Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened roughly 2.5 miles west of Esmond. Peterbilt, driven by 33 year-old Gregory Kalenze of Mandan, was traveling southbound when an unidentified man driving a Chevy S10 failed to yield at the intersection and was struck.

Both vehicles came to rest in the south ditch facing west. The chevy then caught fire after the collision. The unidentified man died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Identification is pending positive identification by a medical examiner.

Highway Patrol was assisted by the Benson County Sheriff Department, Pierce County Sheriff Department, Esmond Fire Department, Harvey Fire Department, and Harvey Ambulance service.
