JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Jamestown Police Officer was assaulted following a call late Saturday night.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious male lurking in a residential area in the 1000 block of Thomas Ave. NE at around 11:12 PM. The complaint stated the man was walking down the street and staring into windows.

“Officers responded to the area and located a man matching the suspect’s description in the parking lot of Casey’s General Store,” Major Justin Blinsky stated. “The officer approached the male and he would not respond to the officer’s commands to take his hands out of his pockets.”

The man then fled on foot and ran into the IDK Bar & Grill. The officer pursued the man and attempted to take him into custody. A physical altercation ensued between the officer and suspect, resulting in the officer being assaulted. Additional officers arrived and the man was taken into custody.

The assaulted officer received medical attention for his injury at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center and was released.
