KINDRED, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first three quarters, it was what some people would call ugly football. No points, not much yardage for either team and no scoring threats. That ended midway through the final quarter when Brayden Hanson scored on a one yard run to break a 0-0 tie and help lift Valley City to a 13-0 win over Kindred Friday night in Kindred.

The Hi-Liner defense held Kindred to 66 total yards and intercepted quarterback Kaiden Olson twice to pick up their second straight win.

The Hi-Liners got on the board first with Hanson’s one yard with 5:41 to go in the fourth quarter. Austyn Thornton added the extra point to make 7-0 Hi-Liners.

After a three and out for Kindred, Valley City would got 53 yards on five plays with Max Fehr taking it in the last 15 yards. Thornton’s kick was wide left to make it 13-0.

The game saw 21 penalties called, 11 on Valley City and in crucial times. Head Coach Scott Roerhrich says that is something they will need to work on:

Defensively, Kindred could muster only 46 rushing yards, 20 passing yards and four first downs. Coach Roehrich says the players did a great job.

Max Fehr had 159 yards rushing on 29 carries and a touchdown. For the defense, Colby Bruner and Peyton Zaun had picks and Derek Diegel had a sack. Bruner’s came with 2:47 left in the game to seal the deal.

Coach Roehrich says the win was a case of following simple rules.

Valley City is 3-2 overall and 1–0 in the East Region. They will host Wahpeton for homecoming next Friday at Hanna Field. The second ranked Vikings fall to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the East Region. They travel to Central Cass next Friday Night.
