KINDRED, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time this season, Oakes volleyball went five games as they dropped their second match of the season to Kindred 3-2 (25-23, 18-25, 28-26, 26-28, 15-13).

Both teams went on solid runs in the first set. Kindred opened up a lead when they went on a 5-0 run to open up a 12-7 lead. Oakes wouldn’t go away as the Tornadoes matched it with a 6-0 run to crawl back into it. Kindred would prevail by a 25-23 score.

All the Kindred wins were by two points last night, but Oakes had the largest winning margin in the second set when the Tornadoes went on a match high 7-0 run and win 25-18.

The next two sets both finished with 28-26 scores. Kindred won the 3rd set to go up 2-1 but Oakes would force a game five by coming from behind and winning the 4th set 28-26.

Oakes jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the 5th set and couldn’t hold on to the lead. Kindred got a couple of key blocks from Terryn Johnson and a great night at the service line from Jocelyn Haakenson who recorded five aces with a couple coming in key moments over the last two sets.

Nicole Schmitz finished with 20 kills, Shayla Novak had 7 kills, and Jaida Seyer and Allison Jepson recorded five kills each.

Leading the way for Kindred was Abby Dushscherer with 20 kills.

Oakes drops to 23-2 while Kindred moved to 8-4. Next time out for Oakes is Thursday at Barnes County North.
