VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On September 3rd, Grand Forks Red River won the first two games of the match with Valley City. But the Hi-Liners came back and took the next three to win the match 3-2. Thursday night, exactly one month later, the Roughriders returned the favor winning the last three games after the Hi-Liners won the first two. Red River won 16-25, 22-25, 25-13, 25-22, 17-15.

Macy Olstad led the charge for Valley City in the first set. Down 9-7, the senior served seven straight points to give the Hi-Liners a 15-9 lead. Red River was never really in the first set losing 25-13.

Except for the fourth set, which was dominated by the Roughriders, the other sets were close. Non closer than the fifth and deciding set. There were 12 ties in the set and twice Valley City had match point, 14-13 and 15-14. But Red River came back and four of the last five points, including the ;ast three for the win.

Jada Steen led a balanced Red River offense with 10 kills. Kaylee Lancaster and Alex Page each had nine. Ashlee Welch had 13 assists and Ella Fosse had 12 but she did not play the third and fourth set.

Olstad led the offense with 20 kills. Cali Halgrimson had another double-double with 15 kills and 20 digs. Lindsey Noeske nearly had a triple-double. She had 21 digs and 10 blocks on defense, but fell short with eight kills. Dylann Diegel had the double-double with 23 assists and 15 digs. Natalie Lemnus also had the double-double with 20 assists and 15 digs. Alyssa Hatcher led the defense with 35 digs.

Valley City drops top 6-5 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 10-7 overall. The Rough Riders are 12-9 overall and 8-3 in the conference.
