JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High football team put themselves in position to win their homecoming game on Friday night, but fell just short against Minot. The Magi escaped with a 21-13 win.

Neither team could do much with great field position in this game. All the drives that started in their opponents territory ended without points. The five scoring drives were all long quick ones.

Big plays ruled the day. Minot scored first and Jamestown answered on the ensuing drive with a 49-yard screen pass that Jacob Hilgeman took to the house for his fourth touchdown in the last two weeks. That tied the game at 7.

Minot hit for a 35-yard touchdown on a quick pop pass to the tight end to retake the lead at 14-7. Chris Sayler broke free on a 33-yard scoring run, but the extra point was botched on a bad snap to preserve Minot’s 14-13 lead.

The last touchdown came in the fourth quarter when Jaxon Gunnville found Peyton Fischer for 60-yards behind the Jamestown defense after lulling them to sleep with the run game.

Jamestown is back at home on Friday taking on No. 1 Century.
